This translation will serve Christians not just in France and the province of Quebec in Canada, but also in many African countries. We already have requests from people serving in Madagascar and countries in northern and western Africa. Distribution of the Spanish Reformation Study Bible has spread throughout the Spanish-speaking world, and we have had to do three print runs to date to keep up with demand. With your support, we should also be able to launch a Spanish version of the Condensed Edition in 2024. It contains the most essential notes in a more portable format. This edition has also been very popular with younger Christians. We see this as a strategic opportunity to fuel further reformation throughout Latin America by helping young believers distinguish truth from the false doctrines that are prevalent in the region.

The above three projects alone represent more than 1.1 billion people who could potentially have access to a study Bible anchored in the historic Christian faith. Regrettably, the same inflationary pressures we all feel in our personal budgets also affect important projects like these. conditions economically and spiritually due to Islam’s grasp over much of the Middle East. Nevertheless, God’s faithfulness remains as steady progress is being made with the opportunity to provide study Bibles to serve 400 million Arabic speaking people in the coming years.

Condensed Edition in Spanish

Expanding our reach into Latin America, translation of the Condensed Edition will provide a more portable option for Spanish speakers using the Nueva Biblia de las Américas (NBLA) translation. This updated Bible translation will soon replace the La Biblia de las Américas (LBLA) edition that is currently available. Lord willing, more than 15,000 copies of this new edition will be available by October.

Study Bibles for Africa

Ligonier’s Study Bibles for Africa project has already distributed more than 74,000 copies of the Reformation Study Bible to pastors, missionaries, and seminary students in more than 15 countries. Our goal is to send 100,000 copies by 2028. Through the generosity of thousands of donors, we have accelerated printing and distribution, well ahead of our 2028 goal.

Study Bibles in India

Distribution has been completed of 4,000 Reformation Study Bibles. The Bibles have been given to pastors and seminary students throughout India with much joy and delight. It is our firm desire to send additional Bible shipments to India, especially while the door remains open amid increasing government hostility to Christianity. Plans are now in motion to send another container with 4,000 copies to India this summer.

One of my greatest joys in serving at Ligonier Ministries is knowing that ministry friends such as you are committed to the Scriptures. Dr. R.C. Sproul and the other Ligonier teachers are first and foremost Bible teachers—those committed to God’s inerrant Word. By God’s grace, throughout his decades of ministry, Dr. Sproul remained a student of God’s Word and a lover of God’s Word. You could hear the delight in his voice as he shared with others the truths he was studying.

Our foundation is the Bible. We proclaim the Bible. We teach the Bible. We defend the Bible. Unashamedly.

In God’s providence, Dr. Sproul’s massive collection of teaching continues to edify God’s people worldwide. We see this being a blessing to the church for generations. But Dr. Sproul also had the foresight to ensure that Ligonier was well prepared by gathering faithful teachers who would stand on God’s Word to carry the mission forward after he went home to be with the Lord.

There’s an urgent, deep, and growing need for this teaching. Church leaders in many countries lack adequate study libraries to help them feed their flocks, and we are seeking to help them. We’ve just released the Reformation Study Bible, itself a one-volume storehouse of Bible study resources, in Spanish, and your support is enabling the release of the Portuguese edition soon. Work on French and Arabic versions continues steadily. We are also expanding our international teaching efforts by adding new, online, multilingual events, developing partnerships with like-minded ministries in other countries, and seeking to efficiently and effectively distribute more and more Ligonier resources.

But even here in the United States, the need for Ligonier’s unique work is great. This year’s State of Theology survey suggests that 30 percent of U.S. evangelicals believe Jesus was a great teacher but is not God. In a nation where nearly one in three “Bible-believing Christians” embraces outright heresy, it is chillingly evident that biblical illiteracy is running rampant in the church.

Happily, you can help us meet this great need. Under the Lord’s blessing, the teaching you enable through your sustaining prayers and financial support is being used by the Lord to transform hearts and minds in many places at home and abroad. I wish I could share with you all that we’re hearing about your impact. Allow me to share just two recent testimonies.

Today we read an encouraging testimony of how the Lord graciously used many of Ligonier's resources in the life of an inmate. Lowell Ivey writes:

"...by God's grace, I discovered R.C. Sproul's 'Renewing Your Mind' program. I began listening to it and finally things seemed to make sense...I wrote to Ligonier and received old back issues of Tabletalk, which I read one after the other."

It is because of stories like Lowell's, and the many letters we receive from inmates across the nation, that last week we launched our 2012 #Truth4Inmates campaign. We reached out to you, asking you to please help us raise $4,000 in order supply inmates with much needed Bible study tools such as subscriptions to Tabletalk magazine, special-edition copies of The Reformation Study Bible, and other Reformed teaching resources.

What is Metanoia Prison Ministries?

Metanoia Prison Ministries is the prison ministry branch of Mission to North America, a mission agency of the Presbyterian Church in America. "Metanoia" is the Greek word for repentance, and this ministry emphasizes the importance of turning from a life of sin to a life that is lived for the glory of God. Metanoia's mission is to partner with the church for the evangelism, discipleship, and reintegration of prisoners.

How does Metanoia minister to prisoners?

Metanoia offers prisoners the opportunity to take free non-degree correspondence courses that are tailored specifically to inmates. These courses are taught from a distinctly Reformed perspective and are designed to take each student from the basics of the faith to advanced levels of biblical understanding. Metanoia matches each student with a personal instructor who grades the completed coursework and provides helpful feedback. Because prison can be a lonely place for a Christian inmate, written communication from the instructor gives the inmate much-needed fellowship and spiritual support. Metanoia also connects some students with a mentor who can help the student develop a parole plan and find a local church that can assist with the transition to post-incarceration life.

How does Metanoia support the work of the local church?

Prison ministry is done most effectively when members of the local church are mobilized to care for those who are in prison. Metanoia offers the church a comprehensive approach to getting involved in prison ministry by providing training, support, and guidance throughout the process. Metanoia prepares church members to serve as course instructors, and it connects them with students who are eager to learn. Metanoia also helps congregations prepare to welcome and assist Christian prisoners when they are released.

How do Metanoia and Ligonier Ministries work together in prison ministry?

Ligonier and Metanoia have formed a partnership that enables both ministries to expand their outreach to prisoners in new and exciting ways. Ligonier recommends Metanoia's program of study to prisoners and helps Metanoia to obtain resources, such as The Reformation Study Bible, that can aid students in their coursework. Metanoia incorporates and administers Ligonier coursework in its educational program, allowing students who complete the program to receive a certificate from Ligonier. By working together, the unique strengths of both ministries can be most effectively used to help prisoners embrace faith in Jesus Christ and grow to maturity as His disciples.
